Nelson Shanks just revealed that he took it upon himself to immortalize Monica Lewinsky in his portrait of President Bill Clinton that hangs in the National Portrait Gallery. He also decided to omit Clinton’s wedding ring. Less known is the fact that the work is actually a tribute to newsman Ted Koppel.
The TV volume was down this am as I walked by, and I assumed it WAS Ted Koppel. ________________________________

This makes me angry. As the wife of an artist, I know how people feel about paintings that they commission. The artist, in my opinion, has no right to editorialize using a portrait. Who does he think he is. Or maybe that’s a silly question…
